Detective Conan Vol. 62, File 646 (Series Part 1: “Village of Animosity”) – It has been quite some time since I have been this eager to read what happens next while reading DC (well, at least not since the recent Clash of Red and Black arc). Based on the chapter list titles in DCTP/Knightus’ site, I shall go with how he called it as the arc of “The Return,” which makes sense too since a certain someone is back… with a twist. I’ll give you 3 guesses who. š – **WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD**
**SPOILERS START**
It seems there is quite an interesting development with regard to the experimental APTX4869 drug that made Shinichi shrink into Conan. Apparently, Haibara has been working on the antidote and has been able to produce a prototype which she had been planning to test secretly on Conan the next time he drops by the professor’s house. Unfortunately, Prof. Agasa accidentally gave this prototype to a sick Conan, mistaking it to be cold medicine (^_^;). Incidentally, Conan, Ran, Kogoro, along with Kazuha and Heiji travel to a village in response to a letter addressed to Shinichi which states that Shinichi made a mistake in his deductions in the case that he solved there previously. Conan slips away from Ran and company. Due to circumstances related to the case, Conan follows some questionable written instructions from the alleged letter sender asking him to go to a house in the forest and and ends up being tricked to a trap. He starts to feel the effects of the antidote prototype at this point too. Thinking that he needed to get out of the house he was locked in, he decides to smash a window and jump out (ack, it’s a cliff!). Meanwhile, Ran and company are looking for Conan. Heiji calls Prof. Agasa’s house and finds out that Conan will most likely turn into Shinichi due to the medicine mishap. Haibara warns that she can’t tell how long it’ll last, it may probably even wear off after only 24 hours. Heiji, Ran, Kazuha and Kogoro search around for Conan but ends up finding Shinichi, who apparently was found in the lake and can’t remember who he is. Uh-oh. Could this amnesia be a result of his reckless jump out the window, down the cliff and into the water? Or perhaps this is a side effect of the antidote that Haibara has been working on? (hmm… it is a prototype after all). What is the real deal behind this case? Did he really make a deduction mistake? Who is this mysterious letter sender accusing him of such? Etc., etc.
**SPOILERS END**
Heh. My head is spinning a bit with all these questions. I guess I’ll find out soon enough as I read the upcoming chapters for this arc. Interesting developments indeed. I’m not sure how many chapters this arc will span for, though. Either way I’m looking forward to know what happens next and where it might be leading to. ^_^

It’s a trick!
Conan/Shinichi cannot let others, including his friends, to know what happened to him up to then. So he is acting he has amnesia to fool all of them and eventually solve the case.
Ah, an interesting hypothesis! I haven’t considered that possibility much. Now that you mention it, that would make sense too. He’s a quite a good actor then if he’s trying to fool everyone! LOL.
I’m now even more curious after reading File 648. =)
ooo, this sounds interesting! can’t wait for them to animated it. hopefully it would be soon. (and not years later)
and heiji is in this arc!! YAY!!
i wonder when Ran will know that conan=shinichi
@saranaufogus: Yep, I’d like to see this one animated too! And yes, Heiji in this arc is also a bonus! Ran has been suspecting on and off throughout the series, so I think she knows it already, although only unconsciously… she’s just waiting for the confirmation coming from Shinichi/Conan himself. Haha, just a thought.
that’s true can’t wait for this one to be animated… Can i ask you a question?? well i already asked…. Where actually can I buy Detective Conan movies, series???????
@ Pauline: If it’s not available in your region, the best way to go is to buy the DVDs online. Check out play-asia.com and amazon.co.jp, to name a couple of sites. I reckon the series and the movies are available there. =)
I really like this chapter, too. It’s really cool and exciting–how “Kudo” is suspected and all.
@ Jessica S: Yep, it’s not often we see a grown-up Kudo back. Plus, Heiji is in this arc as well. ^_^
The ending to 651 was getting so good… then I saw the last page…
