Episode 25: “Celebration”
Summary: Chagum continues on his way to Sahnan, the place of celebration, which appears to be a place where Sagu and Nayug overlaps. With Tanda managing to defeat one of the La Lunga, Balsa and company accepts the sig salua blossoms and consume the nectar so that they’d be able to fight against the La Lunga too and protect Chagum. Torogai-shi and Shuga are also on their way.
Balsa asks the warriors what their orders are. They say will prioritize protecting Chagum over the egg. Balsa agrees, saying that it’ll be pointless otherwise. On their way to Shanan, Torogai-shi and Shuga sees Tanda with the dead La Lunga. Tanda explains the sig salua blossoms. Torogai-shi commends him for figuring that one out. They then see a bear cub that seems to have the same fate as Chagum, with the egg residing in its body. Unfortunately, the cub gets killed by the La Lunga and the egg gets crushed. Chagum finally reaches Sahnan. It seems the time for the egg to hatch is drawing near as dawn approaches. Chagum runs for his life as another La Lunga shows up. Balsa and company arrive. Mon tells Balsa to protect Chagum while he and the other warriors will hold off the egg eaters with fire. Just then, a bunch of other La Lunga appear. Meanwhile, Torogai-shi , Shuga and Tanda arrive in Sahnan but only Tanda can see what’s going on, much to Torogai-shi and Shuga’s chagrin. The time for the egg to hatch is almost here. It seems that the egg can’t hatch unless Chagum gets torn up by the La Lunga (bummer). Chagum refuses to escape since the egg can’t be born otherwise, so they go higher up instead as far away from the egg eaters as possible. Tanda comes to their aid. He tells Balsa that he thinks he can extract the egg since there is a record of a similar attempt 200 years ago that almost succeeded. Balsa entrusts Chagum to Tanda as she goes to help out the warriors in holding off the horde of La Lunga. In the midst of fighting, the La Lunga suddenly stop moving. It turns out that the day has dawned in Sagu.
Balsa goes over to where Tanda and Chagum are. Torogai-shi and Shuga can see them now since the moment of overlap between Sagu and Nayug is almost over. Amidst Chagum’s pain, Tanda along with Balsa’s help are able to successfully extract the egg. Balsa throws the egg up in the air for the nahji to retrieve the egg. Chagum sheds some tears of relief, “My struggle with fate is over.”
~ end of episode
Impression: Months after completing this series last September, I finally got around to posting the final two episodes. Heh, it’s better late than never, right? (^_^;).
As usual, some nice fighting moves in this episode, though nothing as epic as those in episode 3 and the Jiguro’s arc. Along with Shuga and Torogai-shi exchanging wisdom, the palace’s elite warriors and Balsa decided to work hand in hand to save Chagum and try to protect the egg as well. The hatching of water spirit’s egg and the impending end of Chagum’s ordeal has finally come. Good ol’ Tanda saves the day yet again, managing to find a way to successfully extract the egg from Chagum along with Balsa’s help. They get to save the egg and save the prince! We get to hear the nahji song once again. As I said before, everything that has happened from the previous episodes when put together ties up what was going to happen when the day for the water spirit’s birth came. From the essence of the sig salua blossoms, Shuga’s discovery of the stone tablets in the palace, to their journey in the Yakue village where they learned more about the nahji. Chagum has really grown up and matured quite a lot. Being able to accept his role as the guardian of the water spirit and being able to rise up to the occasion when the moment of truth arrived.
On another note, this series has one of the best soundtracks among those in the Spring 2007 lineup. Wonderful music done by Kenji Kawai. I’ll talk about it more on my final impression next time. Anyway, one more episode to go, and I’d be able to post the long overdue summary by the end of this week. =D
Next episode: Now that his stint as a guardian is over, Chagum and company return to the palace. It’s the final episode coming up.
