Episode 14: “Hey hey! I’m going to a Party. Hurry Up”
Summary: While playing video games, Nagi tells Hayate that she plans to throw a celebratory party in honor of Hayate for passing the admission exam to Hakuou Academy even though they haven’t received the official results yet. Yuki-sensei, on the other hand, is in full panic mode as she is the one tasked tell Hayate actually failed (by just one point!). She feels really guilty because she played a prank Hayate before the exams and that added to his stress while taking the exam last episode. Yuki-sensei goes to Hinagiku for help and tells her the situation. Hina beats her up for ruining people’s lives since Hayate failed because of Yuki.
Hina calls Maria and tells her the situation and that they are on their way the Sanzenin mansion to break the news to Hayate. Upon arriving, they walk into the celebratory party. Yuki panics even more seeing that the party is for Hayate’s success and with Klaus saying that he told Hayate he’d be fired if he doesn’t pass the exam. Hayate, not knowing that he failed, is in a very good mood. Klaus announces on mic that the teacher even came personally to tell Hayate the good news. Yuki can’t bring herself to tell Hayate the truth and makes a congratulatory speech instead, thereby getting a punch from Hina. Nagi notices Hina and asks her why she’s there. Hina tells Nagi privately that Hayate failed and wonders what they can do.
Hayate gives a “thank you” speech which is very sincere and touches everyone’s heart saying how he’s so happy and blessed to be given the chance to go to school again. Yuki then gathers the guts to tell Hayate the truth but as she tries, Hayate cuts her off saying he’s looking forward to having her as the homeroom teacher. She goes along with that and tells Nagi and Hina that she decided to take the “Hayate failed” secret to her grave and let Hayate attend school since no one would probably notice anyway that there’s one extra student. They argue over the situation when Hina’s friends (3 of her schoolmates from previous episodes, I forget their names, sorry!) suddenly drop by the party saying they found the exam result in Yuki-sensei’s room and that they’re there to console Hayate for failing.
Hayate is devastated with the news and stealthily slips out of the party. Maria finds him sadly sitting by the lake. He tells Maria that he feels like he did something terrible to Nagi and everybody else who came there to celebrate with him since he failed to meet everyone’s expectations. He says he’s learned to train his mind not to have high hopes for himself so he wouldn’t get hurt again, but he got too overwhelmed over Maria and Nagi’s kindness that he forgot that mindset and began to hope again saying “the emptier you are, the less you lose” and that an empty person like him is not fit to be Nagi’s butler but he will still try do his best.
Maria gives him a pep talk. She holds his chin up and looks into his face, saying she sees that his face says he can’t do it alone then shows him his very own school ID. Hayate is surprised that he got accepted. Maria says she sent her recommendation and that factored in resulting to Hayate’s admission. This cheers him up and regains his confidence again. Maria tells him to do his best as Nagi’s butler. Hayate agrees and says he’ll do his best for Nagi and Maria’s sake. Maria later blushes realizing that she got a bit too close to Hayate there for a moment.
~ end of episode.
My Impression: Those scenes with Hina and Yuki are so funny, with Hina acting like the more responsible sister even though Yuki is older and is even a teacher in their school. For me, this is my favorite episode so far, more so because of the sweet moment between Hayate and Maria! ^_^ (Can you guess which pairing I’m rooting for? Haha) I think they look cute together. 😉
This episode also introduces the new ending theme ” Get my way!” by Mami Kawada with new end-credit scenes to boot featuring the summer season and the girls in their bathing suits. It’s a pretty catchy tune.
Next episode: Hayate goes back to school!
