This is the latest Black Organization arc in the Detective Conan anime (episodes 491 to 504). I think it’s a really good arc to kick off yet another new season. I’ve put watching DC “on-hold” for a while due to certain reasons, but I occasionally watch a few episodes in bulk now and then. I’ve been continuously reading the manga, so it’s really not much of a loss. Besides being a fan of the mystery genre, Sherlock Holmes, and DC itself, there are three main reasons why I’ve been following DC regularly: (1) Black Organization – I want to see how Conan takes down the BO with the help of the FBI and CIA; (2) Ran, Shinichi/Conan, Ai/Sherry – I want to see Conan become Shinichi once again and reunite with Ran. I want to see Ai become Sherry again and have her own happy ending; (3) Takagi x Sato – I want to see them get married! Seriously, these two have had the most progress story-wise in the DC world, even though they’re side characters. ^_^
So basically, significant episode arcs involving the BO are the ones I totally watch, followed by Ran x Shinichi (like the Desperate Revival arc), and Takagi x Sato (Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story arc). Heiji appearing in several episodes is something to watch as well.
Ahem. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that this year, I’ve been pulled back into watching DC weekly because of this “Clash of Red and Black!” story arc. If it’s going where I think it’s going, and judging from the preview of ep. 495, the next series of events would be the one I’ve been dying waiting for to be animated from the manga. Oh, I think it’s gonna be really good.
Episodes 491-494 covered manga files 585-590 from Vol. 56-57. Episodes 495-500+ will probably cover manga files 595-609 from Vol. 57-59, which will air on 02/11, 02/18, 02/25, 03/03, 03/10, and 03/17/2008 (maybe even throughout April if this arc goes beyond the 500th episode, which I think is more likely to happen).
Speaking of these volumes, I’ve read and re-read files 595-609 multiple times. 
I’m eagerly anticipating the next BO arc that will deal where this series of events left off. A lot of theories and hypotheses are swirling in the DC fanbase. Naturally, I have my own suspicions too. ** WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD**

Personally, I refuse to believe that Akai is really dead! Maybe I’m being stubborn since I really liked his character. A part of me thinks he might possibly, maybe, could be gone for real, but still my mind is stubbornly refusing to believe he’s dead. I don’t think Akai is foolish enough to blatantly fall for that trick. He knows how those evil BO members think and he probably was able to anticipate the move Gin will make against him via Rena. He also did that diversion in the hospital with the help of Conan, so I think there’s a big chance that they both knew Rena would be ordered to kill off Akai sooner or later, um, with sooner being the case. That smirk that he seemed to have on his face when Rena pulled the trigger makes me think they had a plan, one way or another, plus, I think Conan knows something that the FBI doesn’t with regard to this incident. With Conan in the loop, there’s an even higher possibility that he and Akai made the necessary countermeasures against the BO. And then recently, there’s the mention of “Bourbon” and the addition of a guy named Okiya in the mix, but I won’t say anything regarding that for now. My head is already spinning as it is. xD

Note that those are just merely my own personal thoughts about what happened and what may lie ahead. I know I don’t make much of a convincing argument, I’m probably just being stubborn. Heh, I might even be thinking about this too much. I wish I had the skills of Sherlock Holmes in deduction, but I can’t even perfect my skills in the scientific method, so I can forget about that. ~LOL.
Either way, I can’t wait for the follow-up on this BO story arc in the manga. ^^

So here’s my comment ’bout “Detective Conan: Clash of Red and Black!”.. even though I wasn’t able to watch the first few episode of it, it made me look for more. The thrill and suspense of the season makes it more intensifying. There is a major story that covers the whole season and tidbits of story every episode.
Man, this anime would really make you raise from your seat and let you think. And after a wrong deduction you’ll end up saying “WHAT?!! How come he/she’s the killer?” then “Well.. I’ll just wait till the next episode..”

I’ve been watching DC ever since it was dubbed here where I’m from. I do love watching DC and I still watch it, although occasionally due to certain reasons and time constraints. I still read the manga every week and have been looking forward to the next Black Org arc.

@Pauline: I’m not sure where you’re from, but usually if you’re outside the USA or Japan, the best way to buy DC manga is online. Back here in Manila, some of the bookstores have the manga in English but the number of volumes sold here is very much behind. So again, I think buying online is probably the best way. Try asking in DC forums too, such as this site, they could probably give you a much better answer than I can. Good luck!

I love conan, but it is so hard to find all the anime episodes english subbed, I’m trying to learn japanese so I can watch them all. I really love the manga. I eagerly await every new chapter.
I also beleave Akai isn’t dead. The moment he got his phone back from jody, the FBI agent, he was about to tell her something with a face witch said don’t be so sad(he isn’t dead?)!
and in the manga a person is going to live in shinichi’s house, he wouldn’t let a stranger live there so I suspect it’s Akai.

I’m still not sure about that guy living at Shinichi’s house, two of the theories around the DC community are either he’s Bourbon or Akai. I can’t wait to read the continuation of this arc, whenever that may come! ^_^
ate hazy! i read that you are from manila..well, i really love DC too but i don’t get to read manga nor watch the latest episodes.. i heard some rumors that the episodes run in japan now already shows conan as shinichi..is that true? and i just want to ask, where can i watch updated episodes of DC from the net? the episodes that you were talking about…

@ nikki: It’s always nice to hear from fellow DC fans!^^ Hmm, as far as I know Conan is still Conan in the latest episodes (ep 514 being the latest one so far). Although in a recent manga chapter, Conan turned into Shinichi for a while with Haibara’s help. With regard to episodes, see comment#9, but I get mine from [DCTP] (they’re my DC savior).
